More on Self Esteem
There are three areas that you can manage the "impressions" that others have of you. If self esteem comes from self concept, improve self concept by:
1. Appearance: Which is better: a much needed haircut that is washed and clean or a $50 haircut that is uncombed and smelly? It's what you do with what you have!
2. Setting: Which is better: a small, uncluttered and clean apartment in an old house or a new and large, dirty townhouse that smells of used kitty litter? It's what you do with what you have!
3. Manner: Which is better: you go out to eat at a nice food establishment and the waiter tips a glass of water over so you yell at him and tell him how stupid he is or you tell him that's ok and you know it was an accident? It's what you do with what you have!

Raising your Self Esteem

Most of us blame others for our own low or high Self Esteem. That is partially true but you have much more control over your Self Esteem than you realise. First, let's understand the difference between Self Esteem and Self Concept.

Self Concept is how we "think" others see us.

Self Esteem is how we feel about ourselves BASED ON our Self Concept.

So if we think others see us as unattractive, or lower than them, then our Self Esteems will be low. Remember, Self Concept is how we "think" others see us. What if we are wrong in how we think others see us? What if we could change how we "think" others see us?

If we get this Blog going and people are interested, I'll give you three simple ways to improve you Self Esteem through improving your Self Concept.

Interpersonal/Intercultural/Gender Communication

This is the beginning of a Blog that my students, from my many years of teaching, have asked me to write. My goal is to give instruction on the three above kinds of communication: Interpersonal, Intercultural, and Gender Communication. I am a Professor at Bellevue University in Bellevue, Nebraska and I teach at Iowa Western Community College in Council Bluffs, Iowa. My students range from college freshmen to graduate students. I also do Corporate Training and Seminars.
